Aloha from  Hawai‘i Island.

Thank you for visiting here. My name is Sophia V. Schweitzer. I am a freelance writer and author, providing high-quality literary and communication services. Covering topics that focus on sustainable agriculture, artisanal foods, and holistic living, I specialize in all things Hawai‘i.

My style veers toward narrative nonfiction and essay, my passion toward fiction.

With dozens of articles in national, consumer, and trade magazines as well as in custom-published, non-profit, and corporate publications, I have been writing professionally for more than 16 years. Clients include Martha Stewart Whole Living, the late Gourmet, Wine Enthusiast, Spa, and More. In addition, I have five books in print: Big Island Journey and Kohala ‘Äina, both narrative/pictorial coffee-table books, have garnered prestigious awards.

Born in the Netherlands, I hold a degree in French Language and Literature. After serving for many years as a cook at internationally renowned mindfulness centers in France, Scotland, and Big Sur, I moved to Hawai‘i in 1988. Today I continue to study with chefs in Hawai‘i who are pioneers in the nation’s farm-to-table concept. Credit goes to these leaders who gave me the courage to write full-time.

So what is my mission? To communicate with readers through well-researched, entertaining, touching narrative tales that reveal the multi-layered reality of our lives in sensitive, skillful, entertaining, and easily accessible ways. To inspire people with insights centered around food and farming, knowing that true nourishment of the body can open us to an inner source of deeper nourishment. It’s like serving food to serve love.

My ultimate goal is to make connections through the art of the written word.

Thank you,

Sophia
